Pistons and Piston and Rod Assemblies

Piston and rod assemblies play a key role in the compression process. The various parts of this assembly work together to enable reciprocating compressors to operate successfully. The components of a piston assembly are designed to compress gasses in industrial applications and other specialized fields.

A piston assembly is composed of its head, which creates a seal within the cylinder, maintaining compression and preventing gas from leaking; piston rings, which encircle the head and seal the gap between the head and the cylinder walls; the connecting rod, which links the piston head to the crankshaft; the wrist pin, which allows the piston to pivot and move freely within the connecting rod; and the piston skirt, which stabilizes and guides the reciprocating motion of the piston within the cylinder bore.
